House of ZK, Brussels: A Showcase of Zero Knowledge Excellence
Share on

The House of ZK event, which coincided with ETHCC week in Brussels on July 11, 2024, proved to be the central hub for blockchain developers, scholars, and industry leaders dedicated to the exploration and advancement of ZK-based technologies. This one-day event was packed with educational keynotes, engaging panels, and in-depth discussions, focusing on the profound potential and diverse applications of ZK in blockchain.

Engaging Presentations

One of the event highlights was the workshop led by Matthias Nadler, a PhD candidate at the University of Basel. His session titled "Blockchain Privacy and Regulatory Compliance" featured a discussion on a significant research paper co-authored with well-known figures like Vitalik Buterin. This workshop addressed the complexities of maintaining privacy in blockchain while adhering to regulatory standards.

Pavel Sinelnikov, DevRel Lead at ZKM, later presented ‘Generalized Chain Execution with Proof’, offering incredible insights about the complexities of blockchain executions and showcasing the power of ZK proofs.

Aetos Huo, Product Director at zkPass, delivered another a compelling keynote titled 'Introducing Publicly Verifiable zkProofs', explaining how publicly verifiable zkProofs are being applied in various blockchain applications.

Lucas Fraga, a Senior Researcher at ZKM, hosted the final critical presentation on "Cross-Chain Asset Transfer without a Bridge," detailing innovative, bridgeless methods for asset transfers across blockchain platforms, which emphasized ZKM's cutting-edge solutions for enhancing blockchain interoperability and efficiency.

Insightful Panel Discussions

The ‘Rollup with ZK’ panel featured industry experts including Jordi Baylina of Polygon, Daniel Lumi of zkSync, Emily Lin of Scroll, and Victor Muñoz of Metis, who explored the integration of ZK rollups into Layer 2 solutions to boost blockchain scalability, and entertainingly bantered on what is key to web3 adoption through the power of ZK.

The next compelling session was the ‘Trustless Interoperability Using ZK’ panel, moderated by Itai Elizur from Market Across, with prominent contributors such as Ming Guo from ZKM, Rami Khalil from RISC Zero, Neville Grech of Dedab, and Sarah Choo from zkLink, strongly debating how to optimize integration of ZK into blockchain for seamless and secure interoperability.

The ‘Prover Services: Centralized vs Decentralized’ panel brought together great minds like Roshan from Marlin, Norbert Vadas from Gevulot, and Nick Pann from Sindri, Yan Liu from Pi Squared, Omar Sadika from dWallet, and ZKM’s Pavel Sinelnikov to discuss the critical infrastructure that supports the generation of ZK proofs.

Fireside Chat

A warm fireside chat on ‘Alternative Layer 1s using ZK’ included industry luminaries like Phil Kelly of Mina and 01Labs, Zack Xuereb from Aleo, Gnana Lakshmi of Starknet, Shervin Beyk from Cysic, and the return of Ming Guo of ZKM and Sarah Choo from zkLink. They offered deep dives into how ZK is transforming the capabilities of Layer 1 solutions.

Community Engagement and Networking

Beyond the sessions, the event provided invaluable networking opportunities, concluding with a ‘Happy Hour’ that allowed attendees to forge connections, discuss innovative ideas, and share insights in a relaxed atmosphere.

Overall, this edition of House of ZK facilitated a rich exchange of knowledge and celebrated the collective achievements of its participants and their respective projects. This event affirmed HoZK’s status as a ‘must attend’ for those at the forefront of researching and developing in the ZK space.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make this another truly special HoZK.
